This summer has been much warmer than last summer. The summer of 2010 (June, July, August) finished with an average temperature of 70.0 degrees, which is 1.5 degrees above the current 30-year average of 68.5 degrees and ties for the 19th warmest on record since 1881.
The summer of 2009 finished with an average temperature of 65.3 degrees - the 17th coldest on record.
Although this past summer was warm, extreme heat was lacking. Only 11 90-degree days have been recorded so far this year, with three of those occurring during the spring month of May. June passed without any 90-degree temperatures. There were three days of at least 90 degrees in July. August recorded the most 90-degree weather with five days at or above 90.
Total rain from June 1 through Aug. 31 was 11.25 inches, which is 2.34 inches above average. As a reference to spot-to-spot variation in precipitation, the WDAY studios recorded just 9.72 inches of rain this past summer.
