Many of you may have noticed your garage floors being continuously wet during recent mild weather.
This is another effect of our unusually warm weather. Not only has the temperature been 20 to 35 degrees above average, but the dew point temperatures have also been much higher than usual, with readings in the 40s and 50s, more typical of May than March.
Meanwhile, the ground is warming up quickly, too, but not as fast as the air. And in particular, the surface of most garage floors is still near the freezing point.
This causes moisture in the air to condense on contact with the ground, much in the same way that moisture condenses onto the side of a cold beverage glass on a hot, summer day.
As the spring progresses, moisture will no longer condense onto your garage floor. But it will not be because the air will be less humid. Rather, it will be because your garage floor will be warmer.
