As blustery, colder weather descends upon our region again this weekend, the spell of mild weather we enjoyed this week will be soon forgotten.
Trying to remember what it felt like to be warm while one is shivering is a little like trying to remember what a full belly felt like while one is hungry. But think for a minute about just how mild the weather was this past week. In absolute terms, those mild afternoon temperatures we all so thoroughly enjoyed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were mostly freezing.
The best of the temperatures this week were in the 20s. Only a few lucky spots broke 32 degrees for an hour or two. This was not the weather of our golden dreams. It was, however, about 30 to 40 degrees warmer than the afternoon temperatures we had last weekend, and about as much colder than what we will be having once the north wind blows itself out over the next few days.
In the end, golden dreams may not be enough to pull us through a hard winter. A few days in the 20s are a lot more practical.
