Seattle is approximately at the same latitude as Fargo-Moorhead, but the weather there is nothing like ours due to the moderating effect of the Pacific Ocean.

Winter in Seattle is usually cloudy with frequent rain, with temperatures usually in the 40s. Seattle picked up almost 7 inches of rainfall in January, which is slightly greater than average.

However, the Seattle area made news for a few days in mid-January when the temperature dropped below freezing and rain turned to snow. Snowfall from 10 to 20 inches fell over several days, causing schools and many businesses to close.

Such incursions of winter into the Puget Sound area happen every few years, but not quite often enough for people in the area to really be able to deal with the snow easily.

February weather has been kinder to Seattle, with no additional snow, not nearly so much rain and even three days in the 60s.
