Despite what the calendar tells you, the present season is not spring. Late winter, early spring is the season currently in progress.
It is not one of the better-known four primary seasons. Rather, late winter, early spring is that season at the end of winter when the snow melts and the frost comes out of the ground. This is an extra season enjoyed only in locations that typically have a lengthy snowmelt period following a winter of continuous snow cover and temperatures cold enough for deep frost.
We can all agree that the weather going on right now across the region is not spring. Spring is when trees leaf out, grass turns green and flowers bloom. Spring is when there is an occasional day near 70 degrees. Spring is when miserable weather means a chilly rain or a late frost.
We had no spring in March this year. Hopefully, we will get some by late April.
