Think back to November and early December, to the first days that were below freezing all day. Remember how cold that weather was then?
Well, that same weather would feel pretty good today. Weather that is above zero always feels pretty good after a round of subzero arctic air. The way in which cold weather cools things (including people) is consistent and absolute. People, however, even proud northerners like us, do not always react to cold with consistency.
What I find interesting is, in the middle of winter, after I have had time to acclimate, how I will react so differently to the same weather conditions on different days. What is it about a calm 5-below day that feels tolerable one day and just plain hurts on another? Is it my attitude? Is it what I ate for breakfast? Or is it just my mind interpreting physical senses inconsistently?
