It is less than two weeks until Christmas, and there is very little snow on the ground in Fargo. Many people are fine with this, but a lot of people seem to feel more content with the outdoor scenery during the Christmas holiday if there is a nice cover of snow.
Historically, our region has snow on the ground for Christmas most of the time. But not all of the time. Historically, the odds of there being measurable snow on the ground Christmas morning and/or measurable snow falling Christmas Day is only 84 percent, which is roughly five out of every six years.
Since the turn of the millennium, the ground has been brown for Christmas in 2014, 2011 and 2006. Most of us have recollections of deep snow for Christmas, but our memories tend to be skewed because most of us recall outstanding memories better than mundane ones.
