Last week my family and I took a driving to trip to St. Louis and were able to experience the full range of weather the Midwest has to offer.
We left Fargo on Tuesday morning before the snow hit. In South Dakota, the temperature dropped to near freezing and the wind gusted to 50 mph as we tried to pass a tandem trailer that was swerving wildly across both lanes of Interstate 29. By Sioux Falls it was 40 and by Sioux City 65.
Just south of Omaha, the thermometer hit 86 as a severe thunderstorm moved toward us at 60 mph. Shortly after we moved out of the storm's path, a tornado warning was issued for the storm.
Wednesday was warm and breezy in St. Louis, with a high in the mid-70s. Thursday morning we awoke to snow flurries and left Saturday afternoon in a hard driving snow. The joys of spring in the Midwest.
