The 6.3-inch snowfall on Monday, March 5, brought the season tally up to 33.7 inches, which is still about 6 inches less than average by this point in March.
More than 15 inches of this winter's total snow has fallen since Feb. 18, a period of about three weeks. In other words, about as much snow has fallen in the past three weeks as in the previous three months.
If the present snowy streak continues, Fargo-Moorhead could easily finish the winter at near or even above-average snowfall after having gone through November, December and January with very little snow.
Because our winter has been fairly cold since late December, measurable snow has been on the ground continuously since Dec. 15. But it has been a shallow layer of snow most of the winter. Snow depth remained below 6 inches until Feb. 22 and reached a winter peak of 11 inches this week following Monday's snowfall.
