Tonight

American music is always changing, but there are certain songs performers keep returning to. That's the premise behind the PBS 13-part series "American Songwriters." Bass singer Andy Rawn, featured soloist in the television production, takes a handful of these numbers on the road and tonight rolls into the Roland Dille Center for the Arts' Hansen Theatre at Minnesota State University Moorhead. The vocalist, whose repertoire runs from opera to musical comedy, tackles works by Irving Berlin, Victor Herbert, Cole Porter, Aaron Copland, Richard Rodgers and Samuel Barber, and may likely work in a few holiday tunes from his project, "Santa Hire Me!" The music starts at 7:30 p.m. with a faculty-led preshow talk at 6:45 in Fox Recital Hall. Tickets are two for $10. (701) 477-2271.

For 20 years John Lamb has covered art, entertainment and lifestyle stories in the area for The Forum.
