Tonight and Sunday
Two prolific area artists celebrate their most recent shows with openings this weekend. Painter Mackenzie Kouba makes a strong political statement with her new show, "2-D, 3-D and a Few in Between," at Art Connection, 520 Broadway, Fargo. A favorite target is outgoing Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and his budget cuts, depicted with smart state symbolism. Find out more at a reception tonight from 5 to 9 p.m. (701) 241-4520. Minnesota State University Moorhead teacher Brad Bachmeier is less controversial, but still challenges some norms. His ceramic vessels aren't slick soup bowls, but studies in history, form and style. He celebrates a decade of showing at the Rourke Art Museum, 521 Main Ave., Moorhead, with a collection of work. He'll speak on the process and progress of his work at 2 p.m. gallery talk during an opening reception from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. (218) 236-8861.
