West Fargo's Veterans Arena is a marked spot this weekend. Hundreds of American Kennel Club purebreds and their handlers have converged on the city for a major dog show.
Spending a short time observing man's best friend brings new appreciation for the meaning of discipline and patience. It's the handlers who have exercised this discipline and patience for many diligent hours before the animals are even brought to a show.
These are smart dogs. As Washington kennel owner Bonnie Ames says, "a lot of people don't think so, but dogs can reason." Ames says you draw the line with the dog and they figure it out from there. But, it's a matter of consistency.
The trimming, brushing and overall readying for show time of some of the most attractive animals in the canine world continues today through Sunday at the arena.
