WEST FARGO - The West Fargo School District is inviting residents to help name its ninth elementary school, now being built at 3700 54th St. S. in Fargo.
Through Sept. 30, residents can email their suggestions to info@west-fargo.k12.nd.us , or mail a postcard or letter to: Name the 9th Elementary, 207 W Main Ave., West Fargo, ND 58078.
After submissions close, each school board member can pick up to three names from the submitted names. Board members will then rank and discuss the names before voting.
Residents are urged to consider names in several categories:
E Honoring local, state or national figures who exemplify courage, respect, honesty, tolerance and other admirable traits.

E Locations, landmarks, or topographical features tied to the school site, such as a street, historical marker, river, or the community or neighborhood.
E Symbolism - a word or words that capture the essence of the place or function of the school.
A district spokeswoman said the board hopes to pick a name in October.
The school is a couple of blocks north of 40th Avenue South and Fargo's Osgood subdivision, and about a quarter mile east of Sheyenne High School.
