West Fargo police caught two 17-year-old burglars trying to break into the concessions stand at Elmwood Park with a steel post around 1 a.m. today.

Today's incident marks the fifth time the concession stand has been burglarized this summer and police are investigating whether the two male juveniles apprehended were involved in the other incidents, Capt. Mike Reitan said.

Officer Randy Burkhartsmeier was on patrol near the park, in the 500 block of 13th Avenue, when he noticed movement near the concessions stand, according to a news release.

Burkhartsmeier apprehended the two without incident and took them back to the police department. A 17-year-old Moorhead male was released to his parents and a 17-year-old Fargo male was placed in juvenile detention with his parents' permission, Reitan said.

Authorities have referred the case to juvenile court and are seeking burglary charges against both, as well as a charge of concealing a weapon for the Fargo juvenile, who was found with a knife.
