Western Cass hit by storm

Storms lashed western Cass County Sunday night, ripping the roof from a house near Tower City and dumping up to 3 inches of rain.

Much of the damage came on a farmstead northeast of Tower City, said Sgt. Bruce Jorgensen of the Cass County Sheriff's Department.

High winds ripped the roof from a building, moved a garage from its foundation and damaged a fuel tank barrel, he said.

Tower City was struck by high winds that scattered tree branches 2 inches in diameter across town, according to the National Weather Service.

"It was blowing hard, and there were circling clouds," said Tina Carrier, an employee of the Tower Truck Stop.

Several power poles were down in Tower City, but no buildings appeared to be damaged, Jorgensen said.

Two to 3 inches of rain fell rapidly in several communities, including Page, Erie, Ayr and Absaraka, according to the weather service.

Jorgensen said there were reports of ditches filling with water and fields flooding.

Southwest Cass County was in a tornado watch that expired at 10:30 p.m.

The storm was weakening as it moved to the south and out of Cass County, Jorgensen said.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department said late Sunday it had no reports of storm damage.

The storm apparently did no damage in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Fargo Police Sgt. Joel Vettel said there were reports of temporary power outages in parts of western Fargo, but that power apparently had been restored.
