WF student newspaper earns national honors

WEST FARGO - Journalism students from West Fargo High School earned honors at the recent National Scholastic Press Association convention in San Francisco.

WEST FARGO - Journalism students from West Fargo High School earned honors at the recent National Scholastic Press Association convention in San Francisco.

Five students placed in individual categories and The Packer newspaper staff placed in two "Best of Show" categories.

Individual honorees are: junior Brittany Rheault, honorable mention in feature writing; sophomore Logan Ahern, honorable mention in first-year photography; sophomore Jessica Qian, honorable mention in yearbook clubs writing; junior Cassy Rokusek, excellence in yearbook sports photography; junior Claire DeJong, excellence in commentary writing.

The Packer earned eighth place in the overall Best of Show for a special edition, and 10th place overall Best of Show in the largest broadsheet newspaper category. It is the first time in school history the staff earned such overall newspaper honors, Publications Adviser Jeremy Murphy said.

The newspaper staff also earned first place for its regular issue from the American Scholastic Press Association.

Murphy said that award was also a first for the newspaper's staff.
