Wilbur P. Haugaard

The funeral service for Wilbur P. Haugaard, 70, Luverne, ND, will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Luverne Lutheran Church in Luverne. Rev. Jan Peterson will officiate and burial will be in the Luverne Cemetery. He died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, ND.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Wilbur Peder Haugaard was born January 4, 1933, in Broadview Township in Griggs County, near Luverne, ND. He was the son of Peder and Martha (Laursen) Haugaard. He attended Kent rural school near Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School.

He farmed with his father and eventually took over the farm and farmed until his death. He also served in the Air Guard for a couple of years.

Wilbur was a lifetime member of Luverne Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was also a member of the Eagles Club and the Luverne Cemetery Board.

He is survived by his lifetime partner, Millie Gutting, Luverne, ND; her children, Georgie Hemmer, Valley City, ND and Helen (Marlyn) Legler, Valley City, ND; and Millie's grandchildren, Chad Hemmer, Valley City, ND and Toni (Brent) Haglund, Valley City, ND. Wilbur is also survived by his sisters, Anne Haugaard, Valley City, ND, and Esther Lee, Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-law, Ethel Haugaard, Knoxville, TN; nephews, John (Jeanne) Lee, Billings, MT, Kevin Haugaard, Knoxville, TN, and Tim (Joy) Haugaard, De Land, FL; and nieces, Sherryl Abplanalp, Madison, WI, Bonnie (Phil) Hermeson, Grand Forks, ND, and Lisa (Brent) Holt, Knoxville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Kenneth.

Arrangements are by Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
