WILLMAR, Minn. - The 27-year-old Willmar man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl who didn’t show up for court last week has been apprehended by law enforcement and made his first court appearance Tuesday on a felony charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
A warrant had been issued for Julian Joe Vallejo's arrest after he reportedly failed to appear in court last week, according to court files.
Bail was set during Tuesday's hearing at $100,000 without conditions and $8,000 with conditions. Vallejo remained in custody at the Kandiyohi County Jail as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to the jail's online roster.
The criminal complaint on the charge alleges that Vallejo sexually assaulted a girl under the age of 13. During an interview with the Willmar detective, the girl identified areas in which Vallejo had allegedly inappropriately touched and penetrated her, according to the criminal complaint.
During an interview with the detective, Vallejo allegedly denied sexually assaulting the girl. He allegedly said "it was possible he may have accidentally touched her while they were playing," the criminal complaint states.
