Wind chills of 40 to 50 below expected as warning remains in effect until noon; flights canceled

Wind chill warnings covered all of North Dakota, most of South Dakota and much of west-central Minnesota and South Dakota.

The temperature at Fargo's Hector International Airport stood at 16 below with a wind chill of 31 below at about 7 a.m.

At least two incoming flights from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport were canceled this morning because of a massive blizzard tearing across a third of the nation.

A warm-up is expected to begin tonight, with the temperature at Fargo forecast to rise to around 15 by 5 a.m. Thursday and to near 27 for a high Thursday, according to the weather service office in Grand Forks.

The forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of snow on both Friday and Saturday with high temperatures of 33 and 29, respectively.

The high on Super Bowl Sunday is expected to be near 18.
