Wind turbine accident snarls traffic in West Fargo

WEST FARGO - At 2 p.m.

WEST FARGO - At 2 p.m. today crews were still working to rectify a traffic snarl in West Fargo caused when an axle on a trailer carrying a tower for a wind turbine collapsed around noon.

The incident at Seventh Avenue and Ninth Street North in West Fargo forced traffic to be rerouted through the area as at least two cranes worked to move the broken trailer and its load, a tower section that was being moved to a storage lot from the nearby DMI Industries wind turbine plant,West Fargo police officer Don Loberg said.

The incident began when one of six axles on the trailer collapsed, landing part of the tower section on the road, Loberg said.

Neither the street nor the tower appeared to be damaged, he said, adding traffic was expected to remain difficult in the area for at least several more hours.
