A 12-year-old Grantsburg, Wis., boy has died after an apparent skiing accident on Spirit Mountain.
In a news release, Duluth police said Gold Cross Ambulance was called to Spirit Mountain at 4:15 p.m. Friday for an unconscious patient with traumatic injuries. The boy was taken to Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m.
Police said Spirit Mountain Ski Patrol officers found the boy lying on the ground in a tree line halfway down a ski run, with obvious trauma and not breathing.
