ST. PAUL - A mother of two has died about a month after more than 75 percent of her body was burned in a fire in an overcrowded St. Paul apartment.
Julia Salgado died Thursday, the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office said. She had been in critical condition at Regions Hospital since the June 19 fire.
Her two young children, as well as another woman and her three children, also were injured but have been released from the hospital.
Inspectors found 30 code violations in the apartment building at 263 Sherburne Ave. and said overcrowding contributed to the serious injuries. All of the injured were living in a second-floor apartment in a building where more than 25 people were squeezed into five units.
