Today is Aug. 7, 2007. No big deal. But a month ago, it was July 7, and that was a very big deal to superstitious people because it was 7/7/07, and for them, it was a lucky day.
But Eunice Stensland, Moorhead, doesn't believe in superstitions. "I didn't even know July 7 was supposed to be a lucky day until I read it in the paper," she says.
Still, this July 7 had special significance for her, because she was born July 7, 1930. That means that on 7/7/07, she was 77.
No gambler
Eunice was born in St. John's Hospital, Fargo, graduated from Fargo Central High School, married Melvin and lived on a farm near Moorhead.

She and Melvin, who is now deceased, had four children, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Eunice was a volunteer for 25 years at Washington and St. Joseph schools in Moorhead, "and I loved every minute of it," she says. She also was one of the original members of the Silver Follies, Fargo-Moorhead's annual musical event starring people long on both silver hair and talent, and still participates.
But back to her recent birthday, which caught the attention of her friends.
"I guess 10 people called me that day and said, 'Aren't you going to gamble today?' she says; 'This is your lucky day.'
"But they know I don't gamble. I won't even buy a lottery ticket. I don't believe in luck, either. I don't even play bingo."
So Eunice let her 77th birthday on 7/7/07 go without any big superstitious fuss.
But she got to wondering whether others are around who were born July 7, 1930. If so, she'd like to get together with them.
So, if you were 77 last July 7, tell Neighbors, which will put you in contact with Eunice.

She's thinking this could lead to a group that would have fun together, with their birth date as the common denominator.
She already has a name for the group, too: the "77-ers."
