MEKINOCK, N.D. - A woman found dead late last month after her car went off the road northwest of Larimore is believed to have died of carbon monoxide poisoning, Grand Forks County officials say.

The body of Tammy Sainsbury, 45, of Mekinock, was found Dec. 23, about 350 yards away from her burned-out car. Sheriff's Maj. Mike Fonder said the car apparently got stuck in the ditch and started on fire when Sainsbury idled it or tried to rock it to get it out.

Sainsbury left the car and walked down the roadway, after apparently staying in the vehicle for a long period of time before it started on fire, Fonder said.

Authorities are still waiting for test results to confirm the cause of death. Fonder said no crime is suspected.
