Chambers Family Fund, a Colorado private family foundation, recently awarded a $300,000 grant to the Women's Fund of the Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation.
The Community Foundation of Grand Forks (N.D.) Women's Fund will receive a similar grant.
Merle Chambers, president of the Chambers Family Fund, created the fund with several goals in mind, one of which is to contribute to the states where the family's oil and gas businesses were successful.
Chambers was a pioneer in the male-dominated oil and gas exploration industry. In 1997, she sold the family oil and gas exploration and production company, Axem Resources Inc., and turned her attention to philanthropy.
The mission of the Women's Fund at the Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation is to improve the quality of life for all people by enriching the lives of women and girls in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
