Worker dies in trench collapse in Bemidji, Minn.

A man died Thursday after he was buried in a trench following an industrial accident.

Emergency calls were received from Bemidji Iron & Recycling, located along Bemidji Road North, around 11:12 a.m.

A trench was being dug to repair a water line.

The trench collapsed and trapped the man, according to a press release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.

His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.

Emergency workers, including Bemidji firefighters trained in trench rescues, worked to open the trench and rescue the main, but he was found dead.

The accident remains under investigation.

Responding to the scene were the Fire Department, Sheriff's Office, Bemidji Ambulance and North Country First Responders.
