Redhawks thrive in fifth, sixth innings to down Canaries

FARGO--The Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks used two big innings to breeze past the Sioux Falls Canaries 9-2 Saturday in American Association baseball at Newman Outdoor Field in front of 4,049 fans.

The scoreboard was quiet until the Redhawks broke out with a five-run fifth inning which featured a three-run blast by Devan Ahart, his eleventh home run of the year.

The Redhawks added another four runs in the sixth, highlighted by Yhoxian Medina's two-run triple. Medina finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, catapulting his season average to .301.

The Canaries runs came from a seventh inning two-run homer by Jordan Smith.

Brandon Barker provided seven strong innings for the Redhawks, tying his season high with six strikeouts and walking only one batter. The win brought Barker's record to 3-6 on the year, carrying a 4.85 ERA.

The Redhawks and Canaries play game two of the final series of the season at 1 p.m. Sunday.
