Raymond "Marty" Mason, 69, Fargo, ND, died Thursday, April 11, in Sanford Medical Center. Marty was born on July 10, 1949 in Mount Holly, New Jersey to Raymond A. and Catherine C. Mason. He grew up in Burlington, New Jersey and graduated from Burlington Senior High School.
He enlisted in the Air Force after high school from 1967-1971 and was stationed in Ubon, Thailand during the Vietnam War. On November 16, 1972 he married Brenda Wheatley and together they had two children, Tiffany and Derek. Later he married Darlene "Dard" Thurlow on August 18, 1987 and they had a daughter, Brianne "Brie."
Upon discharge from the Air Force he began working at Hooker Chemical and then Burlington Pharmacy for many years. After moving to Fargo, he worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and later retired from Noridian Healthcare Solutions.
He was a lifelong Philadelphia Flyers and Phillies fan, and in recent years he became a Bison football fan.
He is survived by his wife Dard; his daughter Brie Mason of Minneapolis; his daughter Tiffany (Charlie) Haye and son Derek (Heather) Mason of Alabama; his brother Bob Mason (Rich Heitz) of Chicago; four grandchildren; and several other family members, including special niece Pat (Chuck) Buckley of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters and their partners, Joyce (Jim) Reed and Mary Jane Mason (Billy Smith).
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Fargo.
