Mayland Eleanore Lindquist
Mayland Grimm was born on the family farm near Bird Island, Minnesota. She was the second child born to Lydia and Fred Grimm. She joined her older brother Merald and later became a big sister to Arlene and Norma. She was baptized on June 26, 1927 at Elim Moravian Church in Bird Island.
Mayland started elementary school in a rural one room school house, later attended school in Bird Island, and graduated from Bird Island High School in 1944. Her family moved to Minneapolis in 1948.
She met the love of her life at a YWCA sponsored dance in the spring of 1949. She and Robert were wed at Epworth Methodist Church on June 11th, 1950. Most of their married life was spent in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota. She was a fantastic wife; and mother to their three children Kay, Nancy and Steven; and grandmother.
Mayland and Robert were members of Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis until their move to Fargo in January of 2006. Mayland had great faith and trust in her Lord Jesus Christ and waited impatiently to join Him.
Mayland volunteered many hours with the Unity Hospital Auxiliary in Fridley, Minnesota. She loved to bowl and play volleyball on leagues. She enjoyed gardening, and fished any chance she could get. Mayland was a great cook and really enjoyed baking Christmas cookies - huge boxes of them for friends and relatives.
Mayland most recently resided with Robert at the Fairmont in Moorhead where she enjoyed Wii bowling, playing whist, bingo, and doing jigsaw puzzles with friends. As her health deteriorated, she was under the care of Hospice at the Fairmont and lastly at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.
Mayland will be remembered by all her family and friends for her great love of life, her sense of humor, and her generosity. She began her close walk with her Lord on December 4, 2015. We know, as she did, that He had prepared a very special place for her beside Him.
Mayland is survived by her husband Robert, daughter Nancy VanLishout (Mark), son Steven Lindquist (Mark Stevens), sister Arlene Friedrich (Orval), sister Norma Hagen (Kenneth); grandchildren Cammi Bruns Acosta (David), Court Bruns, Erik Bruns, John VanLishout and Amy VanLishout; great grandchildren twins Mnemosyne and Penelope Acosta (who were a huge source of pride and joy); and 17 loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Lydia Grimm, brother, Merald Grimm (Delores) and her beloved daughter Kay Bruns (Dennis).
A very special thanks to the staffs at the Fairmont, Eventide Lutheran Home; and her very blessed team from Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Memorial gifts will be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
