Ardith (Haakenstad) Holly
Ardith (Haakenstad) Holly died at age 90 on June 29th, 2021 in Fishers, Indiana. She was born in Fargo, ND April 17, 1931 to Lillian and Otto Haakenstad. She graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1949 and from NDSU in 1953. She married Harlan K. Holly in 1954 and resided in Houston, Texas, while he was a First Lieutenant and Flight Instructor at Ellington Air Force Base after service in the Korean War. They returned to North Dakota, where Harlan enrolled in the UND Law School in Grand Forks earning a JD degree. In 1966 they moved to Fort Wayne, IN, where Harlan joined the legal department of Lincoln National Life Insurance Co. They were married 64 years and raised three sons. Following retirement they moved to Fishers, IN. In summer months they resided at their cottage on Lake Detroit, MN, and during winter months in Scottsdale, AZ. They enjoyed traveling including visits to their respective family heritage sites in Scandinavia (Ardie) and England (Harlan). They played golf regularly, enjoyed a morning walk routinely, loved to garden and to go “pontooning” and fishing on Lake Detroit. Ardie loved to read and listen to classical music, especially to violin concertos, having played the violin in her younger years. As their health declined Ardie and Harlan moved to a long term care facility in Fishers, where it was easier for Ardie to devotedly care for Harlan during his most difficult years prior to his death on December 1, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her parents and older brother Dale. She is survived by her three sons, four grandchildren and younger brother Alan.
