Carmen Bernier, 75, of Weslaco, TX passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Mid-Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation after a valiant battle against cancer.
Carmen was born the first of three children on June 5, 1944 to Duane and Doris (Clemenson) Armistead. She grew up on the family farm in Forman, ND and later worked and attended school in Fargo, ND. On February 10, 1962 she married Eugene Bernier in St. Benedict and together they had two children. Carmen worked alongside Gene for over twenty years in their family businesses, Bernier’s TV & Electronics, in West Fargo and The Fort Saloon in Abercrombie, ND. She later worked in Fargo, ND as an office manager for Kuntz Insurance Agency and Aqua Water Store. She worked for the VFW in West Fargo, ND for several years in various capacities. In 2013, she moved to Weslaco, TX to enjoy retirement in warmer weather.
She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, bowling, sewing, horseback riding, team penning, spending time with her grandchildren and socializing with her many friends. Not one to sit still, she spent her retirement making quilts for hospitalized children and doting on her beloved puppies as well as pet and house sitting for her neighbors. She will be remembered for her kind heart and willingness to help others.
She is survived by her son, Kevin (Deb) Bernier, their sons, Jordan (fiance’ Kaeli Wendt) and Kendal. She is also survived by her daughter, Michelle Bernier and her children Dylan and Ava Meeks, her mother, Doris Armistead, sister Diane (Clarence) Bernier, Weslaco, TX, brother, William Armistead, and sister-in-law Emily Armistead, Maplewood, MN.
She was preceded in death by her father, ex-husband and Clinton Kopp, her partner in shenanigans for twenty-plus years.
Due to the health concerns currently impacting the country, a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Fargo, ND.
