Darlene Planteen Johnson

Cogswell, ND: Darlene Planteen Johnson, a long time Cogswell resident, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Eventide in Fargo, ND at the age of 90. Due to the current restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Sargent Cemetery of Cogswell. A celebration of life will be planned later this year when restrictions are relaxed.

Darlene Mae Schneider was born on a farm near Britton, SD on March 22, 1930 to Robert and Gertie (Thompson) Schneider. She graduated from Britton High School and spent three summers at Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD to earn her teaching certificate. She taught at a country school for two years and served as Deputy County Superintendent of Schools in Marshall County.

On November 8, 1952 she married Lloyd Planteen. In 1959, they bought a farm northeast of Brampton, ND. Lloyd passed away on September 12, 1993.

On July 5, 1995 Darlene married Vernon Johnson. They made their home in Napoleon, ND. Vernon then passed away May 25, 2007. Darlene moved to Forman where she remained until moving to Fargo Eventide.

She is survived by her children: Dianne (Harley) Anderson, Lyle (Gayle) Planteen, Eldon (Denise) Planteen, Bernard (Penny) Planteen, Julianne (William) Cookson, and Charles (Lisa) Planteen; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; step-children: Dale (Jean) Johnson and Ted (Mary) Johnson; and her siblings: Gerald (Dorthy) Schneider, Marilyn Likness, and Karen (Roger) St. Sauver.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Lloyd (husband); Vernon (husband); Julie Planteen (daughter); Donald Schneider (brother); and Dana Rose Planteen (granddaughter).

The family is asking for no flower memorials at this time.
