Delores Jane Hummel

Delores Jane Hummel, 77, of Fargo (previously of Walhalla, ND) passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, ND.

Delores was born November 18, 1941 in Washburn ND to John and Elsie (Hepper) Walker. She grew up on a farm near Selfridge, ND where she graduated in 1959. Delores attended business college before marrying her high school sweetheart, Myron Hummel, in Bismarck, ND. They made their first home in Rome, NY while Myron served in the military. After his discharge in 1965, and now as a family of 6, they returned to Bismarck.

Delores dedicated several years to caring for her four children and attending to the home. She did this while living in Bismarck, ND, Scobey, MT, Langdon, ND and finally Walhalla, ND. While in Walhalla she found employment with First Federal Bank as a secretary and then manager until the branch closed. Together with Myron she purchased and operated the Walhalla Hardware store for many years. After selling the business she began working at Motor Coach Industries in Pembina, ND. She and Myron retired, and then moved to Grand Forks, ND. After Myron’s passing in 2009, she moved to Fargo to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed spending time at the lake, gardening and embroidery. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and she will be missed by many.

Delores’s surviving family members include her children: Randy Hummel of Walhalla, ND; Sheryl (Mike) Bahl of Owatonna, MN; Paula (Scott) Breidenbach of West Fargo, ND and Susan (Scott) Reisenauer of Bismarck, ND; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Florence Walker of San Ramon, CA, Lenore (Jim) Hopfauf of Bismarck, ND, Gary (Rosie) Walker of Bismarck, ND and sister-in-law, Judith Walker of Bismarck, ND.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Clayton and James Walker, niece Terry Worley; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Gary Hellman.

Memorial Service: Tuesday, November 26 at 11 a.m. at Olivet Lutheran Church, 1330 University Drive South, Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethany Retirement Living of Fargo.
