Donna F. Backer

Donna Faye Backer, 77, of Dilworth, MN, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, in her home.

Donna Faye Lampert was born July 16, 1942, to Lester and Ruth (Crawford) Lampert, in Muscatine, IA. Donna grew up in Muscatine, where she graduated high school in 1960. After high school, Donna worked as a nurse’s aid at St. Luke’s Hospital, in Muscatine. Donna married Sylvester Jonathan Backer on July 11, 1968, at Rock Island, IL. In 1972 they moved to Harlan, IA, where they owned and operated the theater. In 1978, Donna and Jon moved to Dilworth, MN, where they raised their two daughters, Pamela and Angela.

Donna had many hobbies and activities that she enjoyed, including spending summers with family and friends at the family lake cabin on Ottertail Lake. She enjoyed planting a wide array of flowers and vegetables, like marigolds, geraniums, petunias, dusty millers; as well as tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. She quilted and made clothing for her granddaughter. Donna was very active at Dilworth Lutheran Church. She was in the church choir and attended many retreats with the pastor and the choir. She would host circle meetings and helped with many other activities with funerals and weddings.

Donna was a very kind and ambitious, yet stubborn, person. She always had the best words of wisdom and a great sense of humor. In 2002, Jon and Donna were blessed with a granddaughter, Vivian. They would often spend time with her at the lake cabin. Donna would bend over backwards for her granddaughter.
