Elmer Theodore Sorenson

Elmer T. Sorenson, 86, Ada, MN passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.

Elmer was born on September 9, 1934 in Ada, MN to Oliver Sr. and Olga (Hovland) Sorenson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Petri Lutheran Church in rural Ada. He attended the Pleasant Plain Country School, District 34 until 4th grade, then attending school in Ada for his remaining years. He went on to graduate from Ada High School in 1952.

Elmer was united in marriage to Eleanore Tronnes in Nielsville, MN on January 28, 1961. They were very proud parents of one son, Michael Allyn and daughter Jennifer Marie.

Elmer was a life-long farmer of sugar beets, sunflowers, wheat and soybeans until his retirement in 1998. He also farmed livestock, cattle and hogs. He was a Polaris dealer along with his brother Oliver Jr. from 1969-1973.

One of Elmer’s favorite things to do was to get up in the morning and meet his friends at local cafes for coffee and shaking dice for breakfast. For many years he loved having friends and family out to the shop for gatherings on Monday nights. He also enjoyed square dancing with the Valley Squares with numerous friends. He loved spending time during the summer at his lake place at Elk Horn Campground on South Twin Lake with his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed going to his winter get away home in Mesa, AZ for many years. Throughout the years he enjoyed going on numerous trips with his family. He also took trips with his friends to different areas, including traveling by motor- home to Alaska, and road trips in a Model-T car to Montana. Playing cards was another pastime, playing with friends and family throughout the years, and being one of the greatest UNO players of all time.

One of the greatest and proudest moments of Elmer’s life was the day he became a grandfather to Amelia Marie. He was then blessed with a grandson, Hudson William, three years later.

Elmer is survived by his son, Michael Sorenson, Ada, MN; daughter, Jennifer (Blair) Briggs, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Amelia and Hudson Briggs; brothers, Oliver Jr. (Carol) Sorenson, Ada, MN, Clinton Sorenson, Hawley, MN, and Lennard (Shirley) Sorenson, Crookston, MN; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Sr. and Olga Sorenson; a baby sister; sister in law, Sonia Sorenson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral: 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN, following all of the Minnesota and CDC COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. All must wear a mask to attend.

Visitation: A walk-through visitation will take place from 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Interment: Petri Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Ada, MN.
