Floyd “Sparky” Sumpter
Floyd “Sparky” Sumpter, 92 of Kindred, ND, died Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at Villa Maria in Fargo.
Floyd was born on November 2, 1927 in Fargo, ND to Floyd and Henrietta (Hanusch) Sumpter. He was raised in West Fargo, graduated from West Fargo High School and served in the US Navy from 1945 – 1948. Floyd married Margaret Johnson on January 2, 1947. He worked for Overvold Motors in Fargo and also as a mechanic in California for a short time. He returned to West Fargo where he worked for West Fargo Garage before building his own business, Sparky’s West Fargo Garage.
Sparky and Margaret built two new homes south of West Fargo after the children were grown. A few years later, they bought a beautiful home overlooking Lake Lida. They could sit and watch the water from their living room or sit out on the porch and enjoy life to its fullest. Sparky and Margaret shared their love with both dogs they named Fonzee, after their beloved granddaughter, Shawn. Winters were often filled with traveling to south Texas and escaping the cold. He enjoyed snowmobiling, deer hunting, water skiing and fast cars.

“Sparky” is survived by his children: Danny (Denise) Sumpter of Vergas, MN, Sheri (JJ) Schmidt of Detroit Lakes, MN, Rhonda (Mark) Kuhn of Kindred, ND and Vicky Laramee of Lipan, TX; grandchildren, Ashley Knecht, Jesse Schmidt, Charmaine English, Misty Metcalf, Mary Erdmann, Tracy Dalman, Kimberly Rosene, Brooke Rogers and Leslie Laramee and 18 great-grandchildren; brother: Gary (Judy) Sumpter of Pelican Rapids, MN, and sister: Judy Turchin of Wheaton, MN.
