Fred Doeden

Fred Doeden died on November 22, 2020 at Rosewood on Broadway following a courageous battle with COPD.

Fred was born on October 12, 1931 to Fred and Alma Doeden. He was raised on the family farm near Caledonia, ND with his three older brothers.

Fred was drafted into the US Marine Corps in 1950 and served two years during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952.

Fred married Delilah (Lorentz) on June 27th, 1958 in Moorhead. They later moved to Dilworth where they raised their three children. Fred began a career in plumbing working in the Shelly MN area and later working for several Plumbing Co’s in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He retired in 1993 after over 40 years as a Plumber/ Pipefitter and was still a proud member of Local 300 Steamfitters Union.

Fred was a lifetime member of the VFW and also the American Legion where he served as a past Commander. Fred also belonged to the Dilworth Volunteer Fire Dept. for over 20 years serving as Chief prior to retiring.

Fred enjoyed his summers on Rossman-Erickson Lake where he made some of his closest friends. Prior to Dee’s death in 2014 you could always find a card or yard game going on at their cabin. He learned to play golf later in life and spent countless afternoons with his golf friends at Green Valley Golf Course then coming home and replaying every shot to Mom. He could also be found helping neighbors up and down the beach with their projects. The only payment he would accept was a thank you and maybe a cold Schmidt beer.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife Dee of 55 years, son Wayne, and three brothers (Lynn, LeRoy and Elmer).

He is survived by son Greg (Vickie) Moorhead; daughter, Wanda (Ed) Oslica Bellevue, NE; daughter-in-law, Teri (Perry) Krieger Moorhead; and grandchildren, Amanda, Karlie (Jamie), Taylor (Erin), Zac and Morgan.

A private family service is planned for December 5th at Wright Funeral Home. The service will be live streamed at 1:00 p.m., on Fred’s obituary page at www.wrightfuneral.com

The family would like to thank the staff at the Fargo VA Hospital for the great care Fred received over the past several years. Also, a special thank you to Hospice of the RRV and Rosewood for the wonderful care during this difficult time.

The family requests that any Memorials be directed to Hospice of the RRV or Dilworth Lutheran Church.
