Helen Von Hagen

Helen Jane Von Hagen, 99, of Park Rapids, MN died Friday, December 13, 2019 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN.

Helen was born in New Rockford, ND on February 23, 1920, the 6th child of 11 children born to the union of Daniel and Elizabeth (Zerwas) Bates. While in her mid-teens she went to live with the Burke family in Jamestown, ND where she took care of their children. She graduated with the Jamestown High School class of 1938 then attended secretarial and bookkeeping school. She worked in the Ag office in Jamestown then moved to Fargo where she worked for the Cook Sign Company.

Helen met Gordon Von Hagen through friends. He went off to the war. When he returned they married in Jamestown on September 9, 1946. They lived in Fargo and Moorhead where Helen assisted Gordon with his business by answering phones and keeping the books.

Helen was active in St. Francis de Sales Church and school. She volunteered at church and in the community. She was an avid gardener, reader, cook and card player. Helen was devoted to family and friends. She is remembered for her sense of humor, kindness, compassion and love of family.

Helen is survived by her children, Robert, Jane, Elizabeth, Katherine, and Jill.

Funeral services for Helen Von Hagen will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2020, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held for hour prior to the services at the church.
