James Clayton Christopherson was born August 2, 1955 in Britton, SD to Abner Clayton and Lavina Mae (O’Brien) Christopherson of Havana, ND. He grew up in Havana where he attended elementary school. In 1973 he graduated from Sargent Central High School in Forman, and continued his education at both NDSU in Fargo and NDSCC in Wahpeton.
For a period of time, James worked for Melroe in Gwinner. He later took a job with Osmose Utilities Services, which caused him to live in a number of different areas including New Orleans, LA. It was there he developed a deep and abiding love for LSU. He was married to Lisa Marin for four years. Eventually, James returned to his North Dakota roots and worked for Bill and Bob O’Brien in their farming operation. He worked at Horton Manufacturing in Britton, where her held a couple of supervisory positions. Perhaps his greatest joy was working as the Reginal Director for the National Wild Turkey Federation. He held that position until retiring after a reorganization of the NWTF. He remained living in Havana until moving to an apartment in Forman at the beginning of this year.
James was an avid outdoorsman and greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Amateur volleyball was another of his passions, and he had won a number of medals in North Dakota tournaments over the years. Perhaps above all else, James will be remembered as an avid LSU Tigers fan!
Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Jackson (Frances Davenport) Christopherson of Moorhead, MN; and two sisters: Linda (Eugene) Marquart of Pelican Rapids, MN; and Julie Christopherson of Alexandria, VA.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a number of aunts and uncles, one of which was a mentor to him, Bill O’Brien.
