James Engelstad, Sr.
James “Jim” William Engelstad, Sr., passed away following a courage battle with cancer on August 2, 2020 in Mesa, AZ. James was born on May 10, 1947, in Warren, MN, he grew up and was the middle son of Clifford and Ethel (Scheie) Engelstad. His parents owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Café in Warren. Jim graduated from Warren High School in 1965. He attended Bemidji State University for one year.
James was united in marriage to Susan Looker in Thief River Falls, MN in 1966. They moved to Fargo, ND in 1975, and later to West Fargo. They have four children.
Jim was a hard worker and worked many places. To name a few, Maul Brothers and Performance Auto. He enjoyed Nascar racing, target shooting, reading, watching NDSU Bison football, and spending time with family and friends. After he and his wife, Susan, retired they moved to Mesa, AZ. In Mesa, he belonged to the Eagles. He cherished his friends in Mesa.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Engelstad, three sons and one daughter: James Engelstad, Jr. of Gardner, Timothy Engelstad (Brandi) of Fargo, Kimberly Opitz (James) of Gardner, and Mark Engelstad (Amanda) of Dickinson; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; two brothers Loren Engelstad of Warren and Lee Engelstad of Fargo.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Ethel Engelstad, daughter in-law Rosemary Engelstad (James Jr.), and grandson Jett Engelstad.
Service: 10 am Saturday, August 29, 2020 in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, ND, with Visitation held one hour prior to his service. West Funeral Home & Life Tribute Center westfuneralhome.com
