Jerome K. Ahlberg

Jerome Kent Ahlberg, 76, Fargo and Fesssenden, beloved husband, father of three, grandfather of ten, brother and friend, won his courageous fight with ALS and peacefully entered Eternal Rest on November 26, 2019 at his home in Fargo.

Jerry was born October 15, 1943, to Ernest and Genevieve (Johnson) Ahlberg in Leeds, ND. He married Barbara Lucken in 1965, and they were blessed with three children, John, Janine, and JoAnna. He attended NDSU and graduated with a degree in Math and Physical Education, later achieving a Master’s Degree in School Administration. He taught and coached at Finley, was principal at Drake, and superintendent at Minnewaukan. They moved to Fessenden in 1977 where he worked in insurance and banking before returning to education at Fessenden-Bowdon School. He retired in 2005.

Jerry was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed NDSU Bison athletics. He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and golfing; but his greatest joy was found in his wife, kids and grandkids.

Jerry’s faith was of utmost importance to him, and he was actively involved with his local church family.

Those on earth who will continue to love and miss him include his wife, Barb; his children, John Ahlberg, Janine (Randy) Rappuhn and JoAnna (Jason) Solhjem; his grandchildren; his brothers, David (Linda) Ahlberg and Mark (Dawn) Ahlberg; brother-in-law, John Wilson; sister-in-law, Charlene Lucken, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Gwendolyn and Mary.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 5, from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden, ND. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 6 at 11:00 A. M. at North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Leeds, ND with burial in the church cemetery.
