Joel Craig Leapaldt, 55, Bismarck, died January 12, 2020, at a skilled nursing facility in Fargo, after living with end-stage liver disease. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 17, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 801 E Denver Ave, Bismarck, with Rev. Les Wolfgram officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.
Joel Leapaldt was born March 12, 1964 in Jamestown, ND, the son of Alvin and Della (Oberlander) Leapaldt. He was raised and attended school in Jamestown. He attended North Dakota State University, where he received a master’s degree in Architecture in 1987. On March 7, 1987, Joel married Teressa Breiland at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buxton.
Joel worked for the State of North Dakota in the Capitol Building, serving as State Facility Planner. He was a devoted member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Joel enjoyed playing Civilization on his PC, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, movies, reading, and listening to audio books.
He is survived by his son, Tyre Leapaldt, Fargo; daughter, Madeline (Samuel) Brown, Akron, OH; two sisters, one brother, two brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law, Kathryn and Steven Bietz, Bismarck; Denise Leapaldt-Johnson and Dan Johnson, Wilton; and David and Julie Leapaldt, St. Cloud, MN; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kathryn and Lorry Waslien, Grand Forks; Shari Breiland, Fargo; and his nieces and nephews.
Joel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Teressa; parents; grandparents; and father- and mother-in-law.
