Luella M Erickson
Luella (Lue) Erickson, 86, our Mother, and Grandmother passed away on Wednesday January 27.
Because of Covid 19, no services are scheduled at this time.
Lue was born September. 16, 1934, to Ernest and Margaret Laufenberg and was raised on her parents Cass County, ND farm located in Clifton Township near the town of Alice. The farm is still family owned.
Lue attended Enderlin, ND High School where she met her future husband of 62 years, Duane Erickson. Lue and Duane graduated from high school in 1952 and were married on June 4, 1955.
In addition to mother-hood responsibilities, Lue worked outside the home for many years. Before marriage, she worked in Fargo, ND as an insurance company stenographer. In the 1960’s, Lue and Duane owned a grocery store in Enderlin, ND where Lue worked as the bookkeeper. In the 1970’s, she worked for Dixon Fisheries in East Peoria, IL as a bookkeeper.
Lue and Duane were long time Bismarck, ND residents retiring in 1995. In retirement, they split their time between Bismarck and Yuma, AZ, where they had a winter home. After the death of her husband, Lue moved in 2019 to Rogers, MN to be closer to family.
Lue’s hobbies were golfing, sewing, dancing with her husband, and grand-mothering. She loved golfing and was a tough competitor. Her sewing machine was always going making all manner of clothing for her family and she really enjoyed making outfits for her granddaughters as they grew up. There was always a basket full of yarn at her feet as she crocheted afghan blanket after blanket. In her retirement years, she turned to creative writing and wrote short stories about her life. Those stories are an important part of Mom’s legacy.
Lue liked people and made friends easily. She enjoyed playing cards and board games of all kinds. She liked a good glass of wine and never wanted to miss out on any family adventure.
Lue is survived by her brother Lowell Laufenberg of Alice ND; son, Dale and his life partner, Paige of Prescott Valley, AZ; daughter, Deb Nunes and her daughters, Alex and Jackie of West Chester, PA; and son, Derek and his wife, Shari of Maple Grove, MN; and many extended family members and friends who loved her.
Luella was preceded in death by her beloved husband, son-in-law Gary Nunes, her parents and sister Leoma Laufenberg Bassett.
We would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at DiamondCrest Senior Living in Rogers, MN for the friendship and care provided to Mom while she lived there and the Park Nicollet Hospice team for their never ending support and care provided to Mom and the family these past few months.
