After the Korean war she met a young solider from Texas named Santos Garcia. They fell in love, married, and started a family and lived in South Fargo for the majority of her life.

She retired from Sears after nearly thirty years of service. Minnie was a loving mother first and foremost and her grandchildren were her heart and joy. Her home was a gathering place for family and friends. When stopping by you could always count on a “just made” stack of tortillas and a plate of beans and rice; all perfectly seasoned by her love. Many times, during the holiday season her house became enveloped with the smell of handmade tamales simmering in the cooker often followed by dancing to live guitar and accordion music. After retirement, Minnie enjoyed traveling and spending time at her children’s and sister’s home. She also enjoyed doing embroidery, bird watching, and “beating the odds at” the casinos with friends.
