Norma Jean (Johnson) Duff

Norma Jean (Johnson) Duff, 88, passed away in Longmont, CO on November 12, 2020, surrounded by family, following a long fight with cancer. She was born in Oakes, ND on November 21, 1931 to John and Minnie Gronbeck. She graduated from Oakes High School and married Willys Johnson in 1951. They had two children, Gerald (Jerry) and Kathleen. Over the years, Norma worked for Ottertail Power, Ready Mix, Oakes Insurance, and First National Bank. Willy was tragically killed in a plane accident in 1972. Norma married Harold Nelson in 1981 and sadly lost him to a heart attack less than a year later. In 1984, she moved to Valdosta, Georgia and married Kenneth Duff. In 1991, she moved to Tucson, AZ and went to work for Jenny Craig. In 2001, she moved to Longmont, Colorado to be close to her daughter Kathy and worked until she was 81 for JC Penny’s. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands. Norma loved dancing, traveling, watching golf, and her lifelong membership in the Lutheran church. Norma also was involved in the Women’s auxiliary group and the senior center. She is survived by her sister Elsie Saewert, Fargo; her son Jerry (Cammy), Fresno, CA; and her daughter Kathy Leiding (Scott), Lyons, CO. She also adored her 4 granddaughters, Talia (Ryan) Sundstrom, Clovis, CA; Whitney Johnson, Fresno, CA; Carly (Adrian) Jiron, Longmont, CO; and Jaime (Eric) Mast, Longmont, CO along with five great-granddaughters Sienna Rae and Aliese Marie Sundstrom, Harper Lee Johnson, Malia Kathleen and Halle Jo Jiron, and two great-grandsons, Owen Willis and Corbin Daniel Mast. Interment will be in the Lyons, CO and Oakes, ND cemeteries at a later date. Please visit to leave a message for the family.
