Kathleen Louise Knecht (Kathy) was born on December 3, 1953. She was the first child of David and Jane (Sheldon) Knecht. Kathy was born in Breckenridge, Minnesota, which was the closest hospital to Fairmount, ND, where David was serving as pastor.

The Knecht family lived in Fargo and Bismarck, where Kathy graduated from Bismarck High School. Following high school, Kathy furthered her education and graduated from Bismarck State College with a business degree. She lived and worked in Bismarck, Denver, and Omaha prior to moving back to Fargo, where her parents were living. Kathy developed numerous close relationships within the communities she lived in and kept in contact with many of the friends she made over the years. Since moving to Fargo, she also enjoyed her friendships with the “Church Ladies”.

Grateful to have shared life with her are her siblings and their spouses, Margaret and Scott Schaar, Jeanne and Duane Scheffler, Laurie and AJ Kluver, Chris and Ryan Church, Jon and Amy Knecht, and Tim Knecht; her nieces and nephews and spouses, Sarah and Scott Flores, Kristen Simonson, Kayla and Ryan Swenson, Jake and Linnea Kluver, Allison and Matt Beach, Ben and Maria Kluver, Dylan, Kira, and Emma Church, and Levi Knecht; and 15 great-grandnieces and nephews.

During COVID, the Fargo group of Knecht’s called themselves the “COVID group of 10”. Since contact with others was limited, they stuck together, and Kathy was an extra grandma to Margaret and Scott’s grandchildren, James, Katherine, Adeline, and Andrew. Kathy had practiced that role when Katherine was first born. Kathy regularly went to the daycare provider’s home to give her a bottle because she would not take it from the daycare provider. Kathy loved it!

Kathy died Monday, January 16, 2023, due to cancer. She was the only blue-eyed child of the seven kids in our family. She received the blue-eyed gene from Dad, along with a few other temperament traits. :) Kathy was able to make good friends wherever she went, even though she was an introvert. She was often irreverent; in fact, someone once told her she acted like a 12-year-old boy. Kathy took great pride in that. She was loyal and sensitive.

Funeral services for Kathy Knecht will be held at Faith United Methodist Church at 909 19th Avenue North in Fargo at 10:00 on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
