Lois Jean Arends, of Perley, MN, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away at home on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Lois was born to Charles and Bernice Perrault on April 15, 1946 in Mahnomen, MN. She attended Shanley High School and graduated from Fargo Central in 1964. Lois and John Arends were united in marriage on October 17, 1964 and they built a wonderful life together raising 8 children. They were fortunate to travel to many places throughout their marriage but Lois was a homebody at heart.

Lois was a loving, kind and generous woman and she worked hard to provide the best life for her family. She considered herself a city girl but quickly adapted to life on the farm, learning to sew, garden, and can fruits/vegetables. Lois was known for her delicious baked goods, including chocolate chip cookies, doughnuts, pies, cakes and caramel rolls.

Lois never missed an activity or sporting event for her children. She was selfless to a fault and when her family was in need, she would drop everything to help. Her brother Ron became a quadriplegic in 1988 and Lois was his devoted caretaker and advocate.

Over the years, Lois was an active member of the Borup Community Club, Homemaker’s Club, Christian Mothers, 4-H and she taught catechism classes. Lois had an innate curiosity, passion for learning and valued education. She enjoyed reading, bowling and coffee with neighbors who were lifelong friends.

Recently, Lois and John gained a community of new friends at their home away from home in Dilworth, MN. Lois looked forward to Wednesday coffee, watching Jeopardy and visits with family. Weekends at the lake were a time to visit with the grandchildren, play games and reminisce.

Lois will be deeply missed by her loved ones, but we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace. Lois is survived by her husband of 58 years, John; children, Cindy Arends, Kristine Sterton (Michael), Carrie Guttormson (Michael), Melissa Arends (Bill Swanson), Mindy Arends, Nick Arends (Valerie), Robert Arends (Brandy) and Chantelle Arvidson (Josh); 19 grandchildren, Zachary Arends, Alivia Trygstad (Zack), Christian and Alex Sterton, Lexi (Sam Kirkeide), Alison, Anna, Abigail and Ayden Guttormson, Oliver and Nora Swanson, Johnny Arends, Jacob, Gracie, Joey, Ella and Evan Arends, and Addison and Mason Arends; and sisters, Catherine Whiting and Patricia Villanueva. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bernice Perrault; sisters, Shirley Vogel and Carol Eberly; brothers, Robert and Ronald Perrault; and her angel twin grandsons, Isaac and Noah Arends. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ada, MN. Visitation: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, May 29, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada, with a prayer service to begin at 7:30 PM. Interment: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
