Maria Elena Sanchez-Mayo

Maria Elena Sanchez Mayo, daughter of Joe García Sanchez and Elvira Castillo Sanchez, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023, in Fargo, North Dakota, with family members by her side.

Maria was born July 28, 1938, in Lockhart, Texas. She graduated from Lockhart High School. She then married Humberto “Gilbert” Mayo in 1958. Together they have eight children: Sonia Mayo, Maria (Dean) Jetty, Gilbert Mayo, Jr., Christopher Mayo, Timothy Mayo, Sandra (Scott) Montoya, Gabriel Mayo, and Samuel (Cody) Mayo. Maria loved and cherished 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Maria will be remembered for her mothering heart, her beautiful spirit, and her loving kindness. As a woman of great faith, Maria’s light shined thru her manners, speech and smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Christopher, great-grandson Santiago, sisters: Virginia, Angela, Yolanda and Mercedes and in-laws Francisco and Manuela Mayo.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life in Fargo, North Dakota on May 13, 2023. There will also be a Celebration of Life on June 17, 2023, in Lockhart, Texas, her final resting place. West Funeral Home & Life Tribute Center westfuneralhome.com
