Robert (Bob) Norbeck was born June 2, 1945 to Ruth and Oliver Norbeck in Indianapolis, IN. Bob lived in Indianapolis until the age of 5 years when Ruth and Oliver moved to Fargo, ND on June 2, 1950. Bob attended Clara Barton Elementary, and graduated from Fargo Central High School in May of 1963 and NDSU in May of 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics.

After college Bob worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, Northwestern Bell and Bausch and Lomb over the next few years. In 1975 he became the Deputy City Auditor for the City of Jamestown until 1977. In November of 1977, he began working for Basin Electric as a budget analyst eventually becoming the Chief Auditor in the summer of 1978. Bob left Basin Electric in December of 1993.

In March of 1989 Bob was introduced to Lynette Mellmer by a mutual friend at the Ray Durke dance held at the Bismarck Civic Center. They danced the remainder of the evening and have been together ever since. They married in January of 1994. Bob and Lynette have one daughter, Lindsey (Jeremy) Dickey of Fargo, ND.

Bob was well-known as being a sociable individual and had the gift of gab. He loved striking up conversations about anything and everything, but thoroughly enjoyed discussions on current political events or sports. As an avid Bison fan, a favorite pastime of his was watching the Bison athletic games of basketball and football. He was also fond in spending time at the family cabin on Big Pine Lake of Perham, MN, soaking up the fresh air and sun, listening and singing to the tunes of the 60s and 70s, and playing several hands in card games. Bob took great pride and joy in igniting and passing on his passion for the act of discovery and research in the new and unknown things in life onto his daughter.

Bob will be remembered as a proud, adoring, devoted, and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Lynette of 29 years and daughter Lindsey (Jeremy) Dickey of Fargo, ND; nephews and niece John (Carol) Carlson of Austin, TX; Jana Schmidt of Moorhead, MN and Bob (Chris) Carlson of Landenberg, Pennsylvania.
