Orland “O.J.” Bye
Orland Jerome “O.J.” Bye passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 29, 2019 following a courageous battle with cancer. A native of Comstock, Minnesota, O.J. was born on April 10, 1937 and graduated from Comstock High School. He later moved with his family to Minneapolis, MN and eventually to the Tulsa, OK area, where for over 30 years he enjoyed manufacturing and designing innovative machining solutions for Hilti. Often a man of few words, when he did speak it was important. O.J. enjoyed spending time with family and his beloved dog Abby, golfing, reading and whittling. He was an avid sports fan who never lost his passion for the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins and acquired an intense loyalty to Oklahoma State University teams.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne of Broken Arrow, OK; daughter Sue Schildt and husband Tim of Dallas, TX; son Mike Bye and wife Tracy of Dallas, TX; son James Bye of Tulsa, OK; son, Jason Bye of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren Ali Schildt of Mountain View, CA; Gena Schildt of Chicago, IL; and Bobby, Mallory and Tucker Bye of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Donna Bye of Moorhead, MN and nieces Nicci Wolf and Heather Bergemann and their families of Lisbon, ND. He is preceded in passing by his son Robert Bye, brother Richard Bye, and parents, Sedvin and Ellen Bye.
A Memorial Service celebrating O.J.’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
